Life Insurance for Veterans Who've Already Given Enough.
Independent broker. Multiple A-rated carriers. Built for the SGLI-to-VGLI transition, the disabled-veteran scenarios, and the families that make service possible.
Three things every separating veteran needs to understand.
VGLI rate increases
VGLI premiums rise on a 5-year ladder — by your mid-50s, the cost can far exceed equivalent civilian term-life coverage. Locking in a 20- or 30-year term while you're younger is often the cheaper play.
Coverage gaps after separation
SGLI ends 120 days after separation. VGLI is portable but expensive long-term. Civilian policies — properly underwritten — fill that gap and add features SGLI never offered.
Family protection beyond service
VA Survivor Benefits + DIC are real, but they're not designed to replace your income. A right-sized civilian policy is what keeps the mortgage paid and the kids' tuition intact.
VGLI vs. private term life — the honest comparison.
| VGLI | Private Term | |
|---|---|---|
| Coverage cap | Up to $500,000 | Typically $5M+ available |
| Cost over time | Increases every 5 years | Locked for 10–30 years |
| Health questions | None if applied within 240 days of separation | Underwriting required (no-exam options exist) |
| Portability | Yes — government-administered | Yes — fully portable, civilian carrier |
| Conversion to permanent | Limited carrier options | Most carriers offer convertible terms |

She walked me through the VGLI math, then quoted three carriers. We chose the cheapest by $42/month — twenty-year term locked.
I'm 60% service-connected. Other agents wouldn't even quote me. Dalis found a carrier that wrote my policy without a rate-up.
Honest about when VGLI was actually the better path for me. Didn't try to sell me out of it just to make a sale.
Veterans — top questions answered.
Can I keep VGLI and add private coverage?
Yes. Many veterans stack: keep VGLI at the lowest tier as portable coverage, then layer a 20- or 30-year private term on top to lock in lower long-term cost.
Will my service-connected condition raise my rate?
Sometimes — depends on the condition, severity, and stability. We work with carriers known for fair veteran underwriting. We'll be straight about expectations before you apply.
Does my deployment history matter?
It can affect underwriting if it triggered specific medical events. Most deployments don't — recent combat zones may require additional questions but rarely cause declines.
What about S-DVI (Service-Disabled Veterans Insurance)?
S-DVI is a VA program for service-connected disabled veterans. It has limits, but it's an option to layer with private coverage. We'll explain when it's worth pursuing.
Do I need a medical exam?
Often no — many carriers offer no-exam coverage up to certain ages and amounts. For higher policies, an in-home exam can produce significantly better rates.
How does this work with my SGLI/VGLI conversion window?
If you're within 240 days of separation, you have guaranteed VGLI eligibility regardless of health. We'll help you decide whether to use that window or apply for private coverage at potentially better long-term rates.
