What is an independent insurance broker?

An independent broker is licensed to sell coverage from multiple insurance carriers — as opposed to a captive agent, who can only sell one company's products. Independence means we can compare options and recommend what fits you, not what we have to push.

Do you charge a fee?

No. Independent brokers are paid commission by the carrier you ultimately purchase from. The Will Kit and our consultations are free; you don't pay us anything additional.

What's the catch with the free Will Kit?

There isn't one. The kit is mailed at no cost, and the optional 15-minute review is also free. No purchase required, ever. We do this because it builds trust — and because most families benefit from getting these documents organized.

Veterans

Is VGLI better than private term life?

Sometimes — but rarely long-term. VGLI premiums increase every five years and can far exceed private term costs by your mid-50s. We'll do the side-by-side math with your numbers.

Can a service-connected disabled veteran qualify?

Often yes. Some carriers underwrite service-connected conditions fairly without rate-ups. We focus on the carriers known to do this well.

Will my BMI disqualify me?

BMI tables vary widely between carriers. The same applicant might be 'preferred' at one carrier and 'standard' at another. The right carrier match makes a 30%+ premium difference.

I have sleep apnea / a CPAP. Can I still get coverage?

Yes — provided you're CPAP-compliant. Many drivers with treated sleep apnea qualify at preferred rates.

How much coverage do we need?

Most families fall in the 10–15× annual income range, with adjustments for mortgage balance, dependents, and existing savings. Use our /calculator for a starting estimate.

Should I insure my stay-at-home spouse?

Yes. Stay-at-home parents replace tens of thousands of dollars per year in childcare and household work. That economic value is real and should be insured.

Term vs. whole life — which is right for most people?

For most working families with dependents and a mortgage, term life is the right answer. Whole life enters when there are legacy, business, or specific tax-planning goals beyond protection.

What's the difference between no-exam and fully-underwritten?

No-exam skips the in-home paramed visit; underwriting is based on your application, prescription history, MIB, and motor vehicle records. Fully-underwritten includes a brief medical exam and often produces better rates for healthy applicants.

The Process

The Process

How long does the application take?

About 15 minutes for the application itself. Approval can be 24–72 hours (no-exam) or 2–4 weeks (fully-underwritten with medical exam).

What happens after I request the Will Kit?

We mail your physical kit within 48 hours and email digital templates the same day. If you opt in, we'll schedule a 15-minute review at your convenience — no pressure.

Will you sell my information?

No. We never sell or share your data with third-party lead aggregators. Your info is used to deliver your kit, schedule your review (if requested), and — only with your explicit consent — submit to a carrier on your behalf.
